Wanted: One Metal Theft Hero

Primary school pupils across Wales are being asked to invent a character that can lead the way in the fight against metal theft as part of a competition being run by the four Welsh police forces.

The winning design will be used on marketing materials across Wales.

Pupils will need to invent and draw a character that can take on this task, and give them a name. This competition is open to any primary school pupil in Wales between the ages of 5 and 11. There is a maximum entry of one per pupil. All entries should be individual entries, and not the work of a collective group / class.

Four local winners will be chosen – one for each police force area (Dyfed Powys Police, Gwent Police, North Wales Police and South Wales Police). Each of the four winners will receive a £25 gift voucher for their personal use. One Wales-wide winner will then be chosen from this group of four individuals. They will win an additional £100 voucher for their personal use, as well as an iPad for their school. There is no cash alternative for these prizes. Their winning character will also be used in marketing materials across Wales to target the theft of metal.

If any of your pupils would like to submit entries for this competition, please hand them into your School Community Police Officer by the end of Friday 22 March 2013. Please make sure that the back of each entry clearly has the name of the pupil and the school marked.

Posters and leaflets advertising the competition are being delivered to all schools in Wales.
