Justice in a Day

Following on from the success of last years pilot 'Justice in a Day' event held at Theatre Clwyd in Mold, Flintshire, School Community Police Officers (SCPOs) PC Sinclair, PC  Ashton and PC Jones joined forces with Dave Evans from PACT and the theatre’s education and charity officers to develop a new event for 2012. Justice in a Day 2012 was held at Theatre Clwyd during the week of 27th February and was aimed at pupils who are in danger of becoming disengaged from school. Each day was attended by Year 10 pupils from either two or three local high schools.

Pupils were shown a play tackling the consequences of getting involved in crime and given information about the Criminal Justice System. Together with the SCPOs, pupils took part in elements of the play and also paid a visit to Mold Crown Court where the fictitious offender in the play was sentenced by a local magistrate. As a result pupils gained a valuable insight into the Criminal Justice System as well an invaluable opportunity to consider the moral issues raised and the consequences of crime for both themselves and everyone around them.

The whole project was funded by PACT and local businesses and as a direct result of its success in Flintshire is now being rolled out to the other North Wales counties.
