Learning with Your SCPO

The All Wales School Liaison Core Programme is a series of lessons that span Foundation Phase to Key Stage 4 (pupils age 5–16 years) raising awareness of community issues and promoting crime prevention. These messages are delivered by School Community Police Officers (SCPO).

The Programme is a spiral scheme of work with each lesson being age appropriate with up to date contents building on the previous one. The lesson matrix shows the extent of the Programme available to schools. Follow up work for teachers on these topics is also available in the teachers section. 

As part of the Programme cyberbullying is a key issue. Certain lessons deal directly with the topic while others have it embedded as an intrinsic element within it. Click below to view our lessons:

Lower Key Stage 2 Stay SMART (7 to 9 year olds)

Pupils are taught about keeping safe online through an animation about Rhys and Celyn who play an online game. Lesson activities are based around the SMART rules.

Upper Key Stage 2 Be Cyber Safe (9 to 11 year olds)

This lesson focuses on a young girl who unwittingly becomes a victim of cyberbullying. The DVD illustrates the vulnerability of children to this form of bullying and the impact it can have on their lives. The lesson highlights the problem and promotes discussion and debate around the issue.

Key Stage 3 Look Who’s Talking (11 to 14 year olds)

In this lesson pupils learn how to stay safe on the Internet through a variety of activities and group work. Pupils discuss the positive and negative uses of the Internet particularly in relation to strangers.

Key Stage 3 Think U Know (11 to 14 year olds)

This lesson through a variety of activities, including an interactive quiz and group work, pupils learn how to stay safe on the Internet. Pupils begin to understand the many positive uses of the Internet, the importance of personal safety issues whilst using the Internet and to recognise that some people use the Internet to approach children, for the wrong reasons.

Key Stage 3 Risky Pics (11 to 14 year olds)

Pupils learn about the dangers of sexting and how to avoid misusing digital technology. The lesson discusses the law around sexting and uses the film Risky Pics to get pupils to understand the consequences of their actions when they post or send sexual messages or photos electronically.
