General info

These drugs are members of the phenethylamine 2C family.  They are research chemicals i.e. experimental chemicals that are not approved for human consumption, as not enough data exists currently about the consequences of their use.

The effects of the 2Cfamily of drugs (e.g. 2CI, 2CE, 2CB, 2CT-7) are described as a cross between Ecstasy and LSD, having both psychedelic/hallucinogenic and stimulant effects. The drug is mainly used recreationally or as an entheogen, by those using Ecstasy and other club drugs or by school and college pupils and other young adults in disco and night life settings.

It was developed by a US chemist famous for his work on MDMA.  It is structurally similar to MDMA yet not so full on. It gives the hallucinogenic aspect of LSD with the energy characteristics of ecstasy. Due to these characteristics there has been a sudden surge of this ‘trippy’ drug on the festival/dance scene since summer 2003 as it induces aphrodisiac effects.

It is most commonly encountered as Hydrochloride Salt, tablet (with I on the tablet), capsule, powder or liquid form and is generally taken orally and can be sourced on line. The experience usually lasts between 2-4 hrs but can last as long as 10 hrs dependant on factors such as stomach content, body chemistry and dosage. The more a person takes the more intense and uncontrollable the experience.

2C is usually taken as a white powder, orally or inhaled. It was initially used as a form of therapy for psychiatric patients. When inhaled, ‘coming up’ happens more rapidly than when ingested, while with insufflation intense nasal burning can occur.
