Contacting Your Child’s School

If you think your child may be carrying a weapon into school, arrange to speak to a teacher. Discuss the problem with the teacher as they may be able to offer you support and advice. The school needs to be aware of any safety issues. All schools have a policy on pupils bringing weapons into school and will be well equipped to deal with the situation.

Before you speak to the school, here are some points to consider:

  • Decide what you want to say and what you would like to achieve from the meeting.
  • Stay calm even though you may feel emotional.
  • Don’t blame the school or the teacher – they may be unaware of any problems.
  • Discuss what the school weapons’ policy is.
  • Discuss what action the teacher will take.
  • If necessary, arrange to meet again.
