Brecon High School Skills Day - Alcohol Awareness

For the 6th form Skills Day on 26th October we were set the task of educating young people about the dangers and consequences of excessive drinking by coming up with a media campaign including short TV adverts which would be judged at the end of the day.

We split into teams and worked on our advertising campaigns. Each group produced beer mats, posters and information leaflets. One group even came up with the idea of having glasses with information on the bases.

Throughout the day we were given access to the media suite to record and edit our TV advert warning against binge drinking. Our School Community Police Officer Mike Eckley was on hand with advice and resources.

This highly challenging and rewarding day culminated in a presentation to the judges by each group and the first showing of their TV ads.

The Judges were Pc Mike Eckley and Ps Malcolm James from Dyfed-Powys Police and Kate Hennegan from Powys Healthy Schools. The team judged to have produced the best campaign and advert was AlcoSTOP, the judges liked the fact that their advert looked at the tragic consequences of binge drinking from the point of view of the victim’s parents.
